How to create a wedding hashtag

  1. Enter the names your guests know. Choose a style or keep All to compare.
  2. Add a surname, year or destination under More options if you want it in the results.
  3. Save a few favorites. Read each aloud and check the spelling in lowercase.
  4. Search your choice on Instagram, then make a sign using the same spelling.

Both names stay intact in most suggestions. For a blended nickname, use the couple name combiner first and enter that nickname here.

Funny ideas that guests can read

#EmmaAndLiamFinallyDidIt suits a couple who enjoys a little teasing about the wait. #AlexAndSamPlusCake keeps the joke light. Pick a phrase you would say to your guests; an inside joke that needs explaining is harder to remember.

Name puns need a real connection. Hart can become #TwoHartsOneLove, and Wright can become #FoundTheWrightOne. The Punny style only offers supported wordplay. It may return fewer choices than other styles.

Romantic ideas with both names

#MayaAndNoahForever keeps both first names clear. #PriyaArjunEverAfter is shorter. If you share a surname, #PatelEverAfter puts that name first. Choose a version that feels comfortable on a welcome sign and in a caption.

Make the wording personal

  • Names: use familiar spellings and capitalize each word. Keep accents if that is how you write your name.
  • Surnames: add a shared name only if you want it. Hyphens and apostrophes are removed in the result, so check that it still reads correctly.
  • Year: #EmmaLiam2027 gives a common name pair more context.
  • Location: #MayaAndNoahInGoa can fit a destination wedding. Skip it if it makes the phrase hard to type.
  • Length: favor a phrase guests can remember after one reading. The preferred limit includes the # symbol. If both names are too long, the tool offers initials.

Suggestions favor shorter wording and recognizable names. Repeated letter joins lower their order. These rules help sort ideas; they do not measure popularity or check every possible meaning in every language.

Check whether your choice is already used

Open Search on Instagram beside a result and inspect the exact spelling. You may need to sign in. If unrelated posts use it, try a year or another phrase and search again. A search cannot reserve a hashtag or establish exclusive use.

Ask someone who has not seen it before to read the whole phrase. Look for accidental words where names meet. Test the final spelling before ordering printed stationery.

Print a sign guests can follow

Use one hashtag across your signs, website and captions. Keep it larger than the instruction beneath it. A 5 × 7 inch card fits a small table display; choose 8 × 10 inches or A4 for a larger stand. Print one sample at actual size and check it from the distance guests will read it.

The five designs let you change the heading, names, date, colors and type. PNG files have enough pixels for 300 dpi at the selected size. PDF downloads use the matching paper dimensions with no added margin.

Hashtags and private photo sharing

A hashtag helps label posts on a social platform. It does not collect original files from every guest or change who can see a private post. A gallery gives guests a separate upload destination and lets people take part without posting publicly.

You can use both: a hashtag for captions and a QR photo-sharing sign for file uploads. Read the hashtag and QR-code comparison before choosing the instructions for your tables.

Frequently asked questions

Is the generator free?

Yes. Create ideas, copy your favorites and download signs without an account or payment. Your names are processed in this browser.

Can we use both first names or keep different surnames?

Yes. Only your first names are required. Leave the shared surname blank if you are keeping separate names. You can also enter two nicknames under More options.

Can we include our wedding year?

Yes. Add a four-digit year under More options. Some suggestions will include it; others stay short. A year helps distinguish a common name pair but does not reserve the hashtag.

How do we get a funny idea?

Choose Funny for playful phrases such as FinallyDidIt. Punny uses a small set of name-based wordplays. If your names do not fit those rules, the tool offers classic choices instead.

Do guests need Instagram?

They need an account on whichever social platform they use to post. Guests who do not use social media can still share files through your chosen photo gallery.

Can we print our favorite?

Yes. Select Use on sign, edit the design and download a PNG or PDF in 5 × 7 inch, 8 × 10 inch or A4 size. Print the PDF at actual size.

Does this check whether a hashtag is available?

No. The Instagram link opens a manual search. Other people may have used the same phrase, and an empty search does not prove that it has never been used.
