Invited guests to expected attendance calculator
The starting acceptance rates below are illustrative inputs, not measured local or destination averages. They mean yes replies divided by everyone invited in that group. Separate people who live nearby from those needing significant travel, then try a lower and a higher scenario. No-shows start at zero so the tool does not silently reduce confirmed seats.
80 × 85% + 40 × 65% = about 94 acceptances. Multiply the unrounded estimate by (100% − 0%) for expected arrivals. Counts round to the nearest person. This is a scenario, not a guarantee or a catering order.

What percentage of wedding guests attend?
No single verified US arrival percentage fits every wedding. The Knot's approximately 80% yes-reply rule can help with an early scenario, but it cannot establish actual attendance. Count people, not envelopes, and keep these measures separate:

What Greenvelope's 2026 RSVP research measured
Greenvelope's report, updated September 17, 2026, analyzed 70,624 events across 23 categories from July 1, 2025 through June 15, 2026. That is the total sample, not the wedding sample. The wedding response rate is an event-level median; the 80.9% yes-share pools wedding replies. Multiplying them gives an illustrative 71.9% of invitees saying yes, not a measured average wedding attendance rate. Wedding sample size and a local/destination split are not published. It is single-platform invitation data, with no arrival tracking.
Destination wedding guest attendance percentage
A universal 50% or 60% destination attendance rate is not established by the sources reviewed here. DestinationWeddings.com's September 21, 2026 analysis distinguishes observed guest counts from invitation-to-attendance rates. Average wedding size cannot tell you what percentage of your invitees will come. Ask about flights, room bookings and time off, then adjust the travel group using that feedback.
What changes the estimate?
Flights, accommodation, weekday leave, school schedules, caring responsibilities and notice all matter. So do how clearly invitations identify plus-ones and children. Count individuals consistently: one household invitation can represent several seats.
Season and destination labels alone are weak substitutes for direct information. A group that has already booked travel is different from equally distant guests who have not seen the invitation.
Use the number for the right decision
An early estimate helps compare budgets. Confirmed replies help assign tables. The caterer's contractual final count determines what you commit to paying. Do not reduce ordered meals by an assumed no-show percentage without agreeing the implications with the venue.

Can we invite extra guests assuming some will decline?
Do not rely on an average to exceed the venue's capacity or your affordable headcount. Any invited guest may accept.
Does an 80% RSVP rate mean 80% will attend?
No. A response rate counts all yes and no replies. A yes-share counts yes replies out of replies received. Acceptance out of all invitees and actual arrivals are separate counts. Always state which denominator you mean.
Should destination weddings use a lower percentage?
Travel can affect replies, but the effect depends on your actual guests, notice and costs. Ask about travel plans and use several scenarios rather than assigning every destination wedding the same rate.
