The Knot's RSVP guide presents roughly 80% acceptance as an expert planning rule of thumb and explicitly distinguishes it from day-of attendance. Its no-show guide discusses a planner's 3–5% ballpark among people who already said yes. Those are editorial expert estimates, not a universal probability for your guest list. What changes the estimate?
Flights, accommodation, weekday leave, school schedules, caring responsibilities and notice all matter. So do how clearly invitations identify plus-ones and children. Count individuals consistently: one household invitation can represent several seats.
Season and destination labels alone are weak substitutes for direct information. A group that has already booked travel is different from equally distant guests who have not seen the invitation.
Use the number for the right decision
An early estimate helps compare budgets. Confirmed replies help assign tables. The caterer's contractual final count determines what you commit to paying. Do not reduce ordered meals by an assumed no-show percentage without agreeing the implications with the venue.
