Choose the game before choosing the questions

In a shoe game, partners answer “who” questions by raising an item representing one of them. In a newlywed quiz, they can write answers separately. In a guest quiz, tables need a clear answer key. Conversation prompts have no correct answer and should not be scored.

Keep the format consistent within a round. Moving from a “who” question to a long story prompt can leave participants unsure how to respond.

Start with two easy questions to establish the rhythm.
Use six to eight of the approved questions.
Stop while the room is still engaged.
Finish with a warm wish and hand back to the programme.

The timing depends on the answers. Ten questions at twenty seconds each use 200 seconds; adding an introduction and reaction time can bring the activity close to five minutes. Keep a few spare questions rather than promising to read every one.

Prepare answers without spoiling the fun

Ask the couple for factual quiz answers in advance. For subjective questions, agreement is not proof that one answer is correct. The game should invite a laugh, not ask guests to adjudicate the relationship.

For mixed families or international guests, avoid trivia that only one friendship group can know. Balance early-life memories with recent shared experiences, or switch to table conversation cards.

Give quieter guests another way to join

Let a table write a collective answer or offer a bingo card instead of a microphone. A photo hunt can run in the background, provided it does not interrupt the ceremony or formal photographs.

Place the hosted game in the reception schedule with an owner and a stop time. Avoid asking the catering team to delay hot food for an unplanned extra round.

Start with eight to twelve and rehearse the timing. Ten questions at an assumed twenty seconds each take about three minutes twenty seconds before introductions and laughter.

Should we include spicy questions?

Only with the couple's private approval and an audience that welcomes them. Avoid sexual history, money, fertility, ex-partners and family disputes. A cheeky question can still be gentle.

How do we score a who-knows-the-couple quiz?
